Seager Lifts Dodgers Past D'Backs; Magic Number At 5

LOS ANGELES (CBSLA.com) — Chase Utley hit his first career lead-off home run, Jimmy Rollins returned to the Dodgers lineup, Vin Scully was awarded with a Guinness World Record, and Corey Seager started his first career game at third base.

These were the highlights of the game as the Dodgers took on the Diamondbacks at Dodger Stadium on Wednesday night.

After Zack Greinke was scratched earlier in the day due to calf soreness, the Dodgers sent Carlos Frias to the mound Wednesday against the Diamondbacks.

Frias was able to go 4 innings, allowing only one hit, which was a home run to Arizona 1B Paul Goldschmidt.

Frias needed 43 pitches to strike out two batters over four innings.

Ian Thomas pitched a scoreless 5th inning for the Dodgers and Pedro Baez pitched a scoreless 6th inning.

Charlie Anderson took the mound for the D'backs, and after giving up the lead-off home run to Utley, he did not allow a hit to the Dodgers through 6 innings, while also striking out 10 batters.

Anderson's 10 strikeout's tied Patrick Corbin's franchise record for most strikeouts by a D'backs pitcher in a game.

Jimmy Rollins led the 8th inning off with a bunt single against David Hernandez, which was followed by a Ronald Torreyes sacrifice bunt.

Chase Utley then hit an RBI double to score Rollins, giving the Dodgers a 2-1 lead.

Dodgers rookie Corey Seager followed Utley's double with a 2-run home run, to put the Dodgers up 4-1.

Kenley Jansen pitched the 9th inning to close the game and record his 33rd save of the year.

The Giants lost to the Padres in 10 innings on Wednesday, lowering the Dodgers Magic Number to 5.
