Man Decapitated In Suicide Inside Santa Monica Parking Structure

SANTA MONICA (CBSLA) — A man was decapitated by the rope he used to hang himself in a Santa Monica parking garage Wednesday.

The suicide was reported at about 12:40 p.m. The man was found on the seventh floor of parking structure four in the 1300 block of Second Street, according to Santa Monica police. The garage is located a block away from the Third Street Promenade.

People were talking about the incident on social media, including one Twitter user who said she actually saw the man jump an several others who saw the body and head.

Less than a mile away on the 1500 block of Fifth Street, a man was taken into custody after police tried to get him down from a tree for about three hours. Police said the man had "obvious mental health issues" and began acting erratically, throwing down branches starting at around 9:45 a.m. He was taken to the hospital for a mental health evaluation just before the suicide was reported blocks away.
