All Santa Monica College campuses closed Tuesday as police investigate employee shooting

All Santa Monica College campuses are closed Tuesday as police investigate the shooting of a college employee at a satellite campus Monday night.

The shooting happened around 9:50 p.m. at the Santa Monica College Center for Media & Design at 1660 Stewart Street. Santa Monica police confirmed that the shooting was a "workplace violence incident, not a random act."

Police continue to search for the suspect and said the victim is in critical condition at the hospital.  

The Santa Monica Police Department is leading the criminal investigation, with assistance from the Santa Monica College Police Department and Santa Monica College.    

"The College is fully cooperating with authorities, and all Santa Monica College campuses will be closed on Tuesday to prioritize the safety and well-being of our community," Santa Monica Police Department said in a statement.
