The area of 1st Street and Harbor Boulevard was shut down while SWAT tried to get the man to peacefully come out of First Street Auto Parts, located at 3625 W 1st St.

He was first reported at 11 a.m. while he was inside a 7-Eleven store across the street. Witnesses told police he had a long gun with a scope on it.

When officers arrived, they saw the suspect run into the nearby auto parts store, where he subsequently repeatedly entered and exited the premises. The suspect was seen going between the store and a parking lot behind it, where he hid underneath cars.

"He's hidden underneath a couple different vehicles," Santa Ana police spokesman Cpl. Anthony Bertagna told CBS2. "He'll stay there for a little while, and then run back inside."

The suspect was taken into custody shortly before 3:30 p.m. on the roof of the store, where he was brought down in the bucket of a fire truck, CBSLA's Michele Gile reported.

The employees of First Street Auto Parts were able to escape safely and there were no hostages.

A police dog was being used to try to locate a weapon at the scene, which witnesses said he had been carrying.
