Fight At Santa Ana Laundromat Leads To Carjacking, Stabbing

SANTA ANA (CBSLA) — A fight at a laundromat led to a chaotic turn of events that included a stabbing and a carjacking of the mother of one of the boys involved.

The carjacked SUV was pulled over and recovered at about 10:45 p.m. Monday night in the 13300 block of Flint in Tustin. But that was the culmination of the chain of events that started at a laundromat at Grand and Fairhaven in Santa Ana.

Earlier Monday night, police say a fight broke out among a group of young men at the laundromat. After one of the boys who was being attacked in the fight called his mother to pick him up, the fight moved into the nearby streets of Tustin.

When the unidentified woman picked up her son, police say she was carjacked at Fairhaven and Eastwood.

"We believe the suspects followed the victim and his mother into their neighborhood and multiple people got in in a large altercation," Santa Ana police spokesman Cpl. Anthony Bertagna said.

Police believe one of the teens pulled out a knife, and carjacked the mother. She was not injured.

Police put out a description of the Ford Expedition, which was spotted in the area by officers. Three juvenile suspects were taken into custody without further incident.

But that wasn't entirely the end of the evening's chaotic events. Another man showed up at a hospital with stab wounds. He is expected to be OK, but has been arrested.

"Based on the video we've seen from the laundromat and the investigation, we believe that individual is the instigator of the original occurrence," Bertagna said.

Santa Ana police say they're also looking for the boy who called his mother for questioning.

"He may think he's in trouble. At this point, he appears to be a victim and we really need to talk to him and find out his side of the story," Bertagna said.
