Safety Measures Discussed Following Several Traffic Accidents In Beverly Hills

BEVERLY HILLS (CBSLA.com) — Officials Thursday were discussing safety measures for the Trousdale Estates area in Beverly Hills where multiple traffic accidents have taken place in the past three months killing two Los Angeles police officers.

Beverly Hills Traffic and Parking commissioners and two city council members held a meeting at 9 a.m. in the City Hall Municipal Gallery.

Following the most recent fatal crash on May 9 when off-duty LAPD Det. Ernest Allen's vehicle was struck by a cement truck, the city of Beverly Hills immediately suspended heavy-equipment vehicles traveling through the area until additional safety measures could be established.

That was the second cement truck to overturn on Loma Vista Drive in a week after a driver of another truck was injured on May 2.

LAPD Officer Nicholas Lee, 40, was killed less than a block away from that crash on March 7 after the driver of a dump truck lost control and struck his police cruiser.

City officials said they are aggressively pursuing longer term measures, including revising building permit requirements to include strict vehicle safety measures and new heavy haul routes.
