Ruptured Oil Pipeline In Santa Barbara To Be Removed, Volunteers Requested To Help Clean Up
SANTA BARBARA (CBSLA.com) — Authorities Tuesday will begin removing the pipeline that burst in Santa Barbara County and leaked thousands of gallons of oil into the ocean.
State officials were seeking volunteers to help clean up the oil that spilled at Refugio State Beach on May 19, creating a 10-square-mile oil slick.
Plains All American Pipeline said Monday the estimated amount that may have spilled was downgraded to 101,000 gallons — about 4,200 gallons less than previously announced.
Both Refugio State Beach and El Capitan State Beach in Goleta will remained closed until June 4.
Those interested in volunteering to help with clean up must be at least 18 years old and in good health. Registration is required here.
