Rowland Heights Jewelry Store Releases Security Video To Help Catch 5 Attempted Robbers
ROWLAND HEIGHTS (CBSLA.com) — The owners of a Rowland Heights jewelry store Monday released security video in hopes of helping police catch five brazen attempted robbers.
The surveillance footage showed five masked, armed men running up the stairs and storming Hing Wa Lee Jewelers at 1569 S. Fairway Drive shortly after 3 p.m. May 9.
As soon as they rushed in, they were forced to turn around and run right back out. One the suspects was seen tripping and falling as he was running off along with his cohorts.
A store employee, who could not go on camera, said Monday that the suspects shot at the security guards as they were storming the store. The guards returned fire. One of them jumped off the second floor balcony to dodge bullets. He was not hit.
Investigators said this was a sophisticated operation and are not aware of similar robberies in the area.
This attempted robbery came almost a year after a man walked off with a watch. A security guard shot at the thief who was later caught.
