Riverside County neighborhood evacuated after propane leak from semi-truck

CBS News Los Angeles

A Riverside County neighborhood was evacuated Saturday morning after a leak from a propane semi-truck, authorities said.

Hazardous material investigators responded to the 53100 block of Mountain View Drive in Pine Cove, an unincorporated community in the San Jacinto Mountains, after firefighters received a report about the leak at 9:31 a.m., according to the Riverside County Fire Department. About an hour later, at 10:42 a.m., the fire department said firefighters were on scene as the leak remained active.

They called in additional resources and issued evacuation orders for homes along Mountain View Drive while residents who live on Walters Drive were told to shelter in place, fire officials said. No other evacuations were expected.

"The hazmat team is on-scene working on mitigating the leak, which has significantly slowed," the fire department said at 11:37 a.m.

No other details have been released.
