Richstone Family Center Walkathon A Success In Windy Manhattan Beach
MANHATTAN BEACH (CBSLA.com) — The Richstone Family Center Walkathon got off to a wild start Saturday morning with heavy winds kicking up in Manhattan Beach - but supporters still made it out to the event to raise money for a good cause.
The organization, which raises money for children who have been abused, launched its 27th annual pier-to-pier walkathon at 8 a.m.
KCAL9's Joy Benedict reports setup was a little difficult for organizers, who had to deal with strong gusts along the coast that knocked down barriers and whipped around their decorations.
Rancho Cucamonga resident Ali Perkins wasn't detoured despite what she called "insane" weather.
"We here and got out of the car and were like, 'Really, today? It's going to be like this?" she said.
Winds fortunately died down and supporters caught some sunshine as they traveled from the Manhattan Beach Pier to the Hermosa Beach Pier and back during the two-hour event.
The organization was expecting about 1,000 attendees, helping them to raise about $100,000 at this year's walk.
