Residents Of Glendora Burn Areas Remain On Edge After Heavy Rains
GLENDORA (CBSLA.com) — Residents of Glendora along the Colby Fire burn area had a sleepless night as heavy rain storms moved into the area.
CBS2's Cristy Fajardo spoke to many residents who had the challenge of keeping mud at bay.
During the height of the rain, streets looked like virtual rivers.
"The system is working. The water is going where it should go," said homeowner David Fredendall.
His home on Rainbow Road has K-rails and plenty of sandbags to protect it from water and mud. But even with three barriers and a shovel, he told Fajardo had a sleepless night.
He and city crews were out all night clearing drains as pounding rain filled streets.
Larry Davis' trash cans were swept away.
"They disappeared," Davis said.
Police closed roads so cleanup crews could deal with the mud.
Authorities said there was enough potential danger that classes were canceled at St. Lucy's High and Goddard Middle School.
By 6 p.m., an alert level had been changed from red to yellow.
There are, at present, no evacuation orders in effect but rain-related parking restrictions remain, officials said.
