Cal State San Bernardino Campus Locked Down After Report Of Gunfire
SAN BERNARDINO (CBSLA) -- Authorities in San Bernardino were checking out reports of shots fired near the campus of Cal State San Bernardino.
Students were told to "shelter in place" until further notice. All classes were canceled.
The shots reportedly were believed fired near the Visual Arts Building. Authorities said the building was struck at least once.
Authorities said late Wednesday that it appeared someone north of the campus fired several rounds toward that building.
Police later told CBS2/KCAL9's Tina Patel that they were responding to a "non-injury" shooting.
Just before 6 p.m. an alert was sent as some classes were about to be let out.
San Bernardino Police later confirmed to her that several -- as many as five -- bullet holes were found in a window.
She spoke to several students about the lockdown.
"We were pretty close," said Marina Urrutia, "maybe two buildings away. But, I mean, I felt pretty safe. I think the fact you didn't hear anything, we feel safe."
Police believed there is no active shooter in the area but as a precaution were going building-to-building to escort student, faculty and staff to safety.
Students were being released from the lockdown starting about 9:30 p.m. Wednesday.
Police went building-to-building searching for a shooter for hours before giving the all-clear. No shooter has been found.
