Report: Big Rig Driver In Fatal Blythe Bus Crash Cited For Several Violations

BLYTHE (CBSLA.com) — The driver of a big rig involved in an accident that caused a fatal bus crash on Interstate 10 had several citations for failing to get timely safety inspections and to keep an updated log, the Riverside Press-Enterprise reported.

Victor Esteban Galvan's violations include failure to register the vehicle, driving with an expired medical certificate and driving eight hours without a break, the paper reported.

Galvan's big rig jackknifed early Wednesday, spilling its load of metal pipes onto the freeway and resulted in a bus crash where four people were killed and several others injured.

The tour bus, operated by El Paso-Los Angeles Limousine Express, was carrying 32 people when it hit the pipes, rolled 40 to 50 feet off the roadway, down an embankment and landed on its side.

The Interstate was blocked in both directions and did not fully re-open until 6 p.m. Wednesday.

Galvan was not injured in the crash.
