Redfin Names Eagle Rock As Nation's 2nd 'Hottest Neighborhood' Of 2014
EAGLE ROCK (CBSLA.com) — Real estate website Redfin has named Eagle Rock the second hottest neighborhood in the United States for 2014.
The town in northeastern Los Angeles County saw a 128 percent increase of page views on the site in the past year, Redfin said.
The rankings were based on hundreds of millions of pages visited by users and the homes they added as "favorites" to monitor for price changes or sales, according to the site.
"It's like a small town inside of the city," longtime resident Kam Talbert said. "Early 2000s it started to 'hipsterize,' that's what people like to say. Younger people moved in."
"I just love that you can walk to almost anything and that there's restaurants up and down the street, bars, coffee shops," Glendale resident Renee Partridge said.
Redfin also asked real estate agents across the country to share their thoughts on which neighborhoods were up-and-coming, citing buyers wanted short commutes and affordable homes.
The median sale price for an Eagle Rock home in 2013 was $539,000, Redfin reported.
Real estate agent Fernando Amaya said buyers are taking notice of the city's charm.
"The structures of the homes, the prices that we have are lower than other areas, and also the school districts that we have here…one of the best school districts in northeast Los Angeles," Amaya said.
San Francisco's Bernal Heights North Slope neighborhood took 2014's top spot.
In the Los Angeles housing market as a whole, buyers also targeted Playa del Rey, Sierra Madre Canyon, Verdugo Woodlands and Hillside.
