8 Injured After Reckless Driving Suspect Crashed During Pursuit In South LA

LOS ANGELES (CBSLA.com) — Several adults and four children were injured Tuesday after a reckless driving suspect crashed during a pursuit in South Los Angeles.

Los Angeles police officers began pursuing the 37-year-old suspect around 10:05 a.m. at 83rd Street and Vermont Avenue, officials said.

A few minutes later, the suspect's Camry crashed into another vehicle and a white van at Imperial and Main streets.

The suspect had two small children — a 1-year-old and a 3-year-old — as passengers.

"Both of those children have been transported to Harbor Medical Center and are getting treatment at this time," LAPD Capt. Marc Reina said.

A total of eight people were injured.

"We have four children — two who were with the suspect, two children who were with a mother in another vehicle involved in the traffic collision, the suspect, the mother of those two children in the other vehicle along with a bicyclist who was sideswiped... and the driver of the white van," Reina explained.

The injuries ranged from minor to serious, but officials say none are life-threatening.

No further details were released.
