Rancho Palos Verdes Man Accused Of Embezzling $750,000 In Custody

RANCHO PALOS VERDES (CBSLA.com) — A 50-year-old man was in custody Wednesday on suspicion of altering company records to hide overpayments that he collected.

According to the Los Angeles County Sheriff's Department, Robert Munoz of Rancho Palos Verdes stole over $750,000 from his employer by attributing the expenses as miscellaneous company charges from 2005 to 2012.

Munoz was employed as the controller of a trucking company in Carson, deputies explained.

His employment responsibilities included payroll, human resources and accounting.

Deputies explained the company's president conducted an audit in April 2012, when the laundered money was discovered.

On Nov. 6, the Los Angeles District Attorney's Office charged Munoz with grand theft and issued a warrant for his arrest.

Detectives said Munoz was taken into custody at his home Wednesday.

He is being held on $395,000 at the Lomita Sheriff's Station and is expected to appear in court Dec. 1.

Anyone with information regarding this case is urged to contact detectives at (626) 278-2804.
