Rancho Cucamonga student shot, killed at Bloomington Halloween party

A Rancho Cucamonga student was shot and killed while attending a Halloween party in Bloomington on Monday night.

"I considered him to be another one of my kids," said family friend Summer Ilich. "My daughter considered him to be a brother. I woke up this morning and couldn't believe what I saw. He was a good kid, always had a smile on his face, always making people laugh."

Ilich and about 200 other people came to Red Hill Park in Rancho Cucamonga to mourn Robert "Robbie" Plyley, a sophomore at Alta Loma High School. Many described him as a bright light.

According to Alta Loma High School Principal Jason Kaylor, Plyley was shot on Monday night during the Hollywood party and unfortunately succumbed to his wounds early Tuesday morning

"I asked for your thoughts and prayers to be with the Plyley family during this difficult time," Kaylor wrote in a statement.

In an interview with CBSLA, the homeowners that hosted the party said their small celebration quickly escalated after 700 people showed up at their front door. According to the residents, shortly after the party got out of hand, a fight broke out and gunfire erupted, striking Plyley.

Witnesses said that many bystanders attempted to help Plyley after he was shot.

Alta Loma officials said counselors and therapists will be available to students grieving Plyley's death.

"We are committed to supporting our students through this difficult time," wrote Kaylor. "Please know that we will work closely with our students as we deal with this loss together as a school community."
