Pursuit Suspect Rams U-Haul Van Into CHP Cruiser

LOS ANGELES (CBSLA.com) — Authorities Friday arrested a motorist who allegedly rammed his U-Haul vehicle into a California Highway Patrol vehicle in the Topanga hills before leading deputies on a short pursuit.

The incident began about 10:10 a.m. on Topanga Canyon Boulevard near Santa Maria Road, said CHP Officer Tony Polizzi.

KCAL9's Amy Johnson reported the suspect - a man in his mid-20 - rammed his vehicle into a CHP cruiser.

Authorities lost sight of the vehicle near Old Topanga and Fernwood Pacific, the CHP said.

The suspect was taken into custody shortly before 1 p.m. this afternoon, according to the CHP.

He had a hatchet in his possession, Johnson reported.
