Pedestrian hit during a dangerous carjacking pursuit in Torrance

A woman crossing the street was struck by carjacking suspect during a pursuit in Torrance Thursday afternoon.

It began around 12:30 p.m. in the Compton area where the Los Angeles County Sheriff's began the chasing the suspect.

A short time later, the suspect pulled into a parking garage at the Del Amo Fashion Center in Torrance, carjacking a woman near the parking structure.

Torrance Police officers spotted the stolen Toyota Prius leaving the shopping center and began chasing the suspect. The pursuit came to an end when a Torrance Police officer struck the suspect's car, which then hit a woman crossing the street.

The suspect tried escaping by running into a nearby fast-food restaurant but was eventually taken into custody. 

Torrance Police says the pedestrian and carjacking victim were not seriously injured.
