Pursuit Ends In Crash That Injures South Gate Officer, Suspect

SOUTH GATE (CBSLA.com) — A police pursuit ended Monday morning in a crash that injured both an officer and a suspect.

The pursuit began around 2:40 a.m. when the driver of a stolen pick-up truck failed to pull over for the South Gate police officer, the California Highway Patrol said.

It was unclear how long the chase lasted, but it ended when the police car and the truck collided just before 3 a.m. at Truba and Kansas avenues in South Gate.

"The collision resulted in the officer being trapped inside of his police unit," Lt. David Pixler said.

Emergency crews had to cut off the cruiser's driver-side door in order to extricate the officer. He was transported to St. Francis Medical Center in Lynwood in stable condition.

The unidentified suspect was taken to a local hospital where he was arrested.
