2 dead following Porter Ranch crash that injured 8 others

A 14-year-old girl died Sunday, a day after a crash in Porter Ranch claimed the life of another teen and left 8 others injured. 

The crash involving three cars unfolded Saturday just before 6 p.m. on Reseda near San Fernando Mission boulevards.

Following the crash, a 16-year-old had died on scene. Authorities said that teen was trapped inside the vehicle and could not be saved by rescuers. The coroner subsequently identified him as Magnus Robinson. 

CBSLA has learned that he was a student at Cal Burke High School, which is a continuation school on the Panorama City High campus. There will be grief counselors at the school beginning on Monday for any students, friends of Robinson and the 14-year-old girl. 

By Sunday, the death toll increased with authorities reporting that a teenage girl also succumbed to her injuries. Her identity has not yet been released. 

Eight others were rushed to trauma centers, where some were in critical condition, while others were in fair condition.

The cause of the crash was not known and remained under investigation.  

People brought candles and flowers to a vigil held at the crash scene on Sunday. 

Family members of Robinson were devastated by his untimely death. His uncle said that Robinson and his friends were riding in a black Honda CRV on Saturday evening. 

Robinson and his friends went to a place called The View, located on Reseda Boulevard. 

"It's where they go to see to see over the LA area, Valley area," Robinson's uncle said. 

The relative told Pozen that Robinson was riding in the passenger seat. Security camera video a neighbor shared with CBSLA showed the black SUV crossing into oncoming traffic crashing head on into a Toyota Venza and Volkswagen Jetta. Robinson was killed instantly.

Joseph Zaroukian lives near the crash site and rushed to the scene after he heard the crash. 

"There were too many, over six, seven to eight people. I just did whatever I could. Some were just stuck in the car," Zaroukian said.

He helped pull some of the victims out of the vehicle. One of them was the 14-year-old girl who unfortunately passed away on Sunday. 

Investigators determined that speed played a significant role in the crash. It's unclear if drugs or alcohol may have played a role in the fatal crash.

The 20-year-old drive will likely face charges once he is discharged from the hospital.
