Shooting in Hawthorne leaves 1 person dead, 5 others injured; search for gunman underway

An investigation was underway in Hawthorne after a shooting left one person dead and five others wounded outside of a strip mall early Sunday morning. 

The incident was initially reported a "shots fired" call just before 12:30 a.m. Sunday in the 3100 block of Rosecrans Avenue near Crenshaw Boulevard, according to the Los Angeles County Sheriff's Department, who were assisting Hawthorne police with the investigation.

Officers arrived at the scene and found a man suffering from multiple gunshot wounds. He was rushed to a nearby hospital where he is said to be in stable condition.

"Upon further investigation, Hawthorne police officers learned there were additional victims who suffered from gunshot wounds at the location," LASD's statement said. "These additional victims were transported by other means to surrounding hospitals."

One of the victims, a woman, was pronounced dead at the hospital. Her identity has not yet been released. 

Three of the other victims are said to be in stable condition and one remains in critical condition, according to Los Angeles County Fire Department. 

No suspect information has been released.
