Pro-Trump Rally Held At Candidate's Vandalized Walk Of Fame Star
HOLLYWOOD (CBSLA.com) — A pro-Trump rally was held Sunday at the site of his Walk of Fame star, demolished last week by a vandal.
CBS2's Greg Mills reports a "Viva Trump" rally, meanwhile, brought out a diverse group of about 100 supporters in Highland Park.
"I'm supporting Donald Trump," said Juan Hernandez.
Mills reported the group was small but spirited.
Trump has trailed Hillary Clinton with black and Latino voters from the start, according to the polls.
On Hollywood Boulevard, Mills asked a black voter who he was supporting.
"Hillary," said Sebastian Butler. "Hillary. Stay on course."
In the park, however, there was nothing but love for Trump.
"I feel he is going to bring back jobs and he is for America. And he speaks the truth and Speaks from the heart," said Zulma Cruz.
Trump has made illegal immigration and a border wall keystones of his campaign from the start, angering many, including one Clinton supporter Mills spoke to.
"Once he started talking about my people, he's gotta go. Gotta go," said Ramiro Lopez.
Mills also found a Latino man who remains a huge Trump fan, wall or no wall.
"I believe in the wall. I believe we need to protect our borders. Trump is not against the Mexican community. He is against illegal immigration." said Jose Hernandez.
The polls show some tightening in the race. With nine days to go, Clinton's lead has been reported as high as eight or nine. In a new Washington Post/ABC poll, that lead was down to one point.
The late surge was on the mind of one Clinton fan.
"I see that. Well, let's hope people vote for what's best," said Haidee Jiminez.
Back on the boulevard, Trump supporter Randi Berger created her own new "star."
It says Donald Trump, Mr. President.
"This is a new sign coming out on November 9th so be prepared whether you like it or not," Berger said.
Not so fast, warns Clinton fan Lupe Monzon.
"I don't think so. I think the same thing that happened to the other star will happen to this one," she laughed.
