Mass-Depression! $759M Powerball Jackpot Ticket Sold In Massachusetts (Not Here!)
BREAKING NEWS @ 10 p.m.: One ticket matched all six numbers to win the $759 million jackpot. That ticket was sold in Massachusetts. The winning numbers were: 6, 7, 16, 23, 26 and the Powerball was 4.
HAWTHORNE (CBSLA.com) — Southern Californians were up bright and early Wednesday to beat the rush for Powerball tickets.
With the multi-state lottery game hitting an estimated $700 million, would-be millionaires flocked to the oft-lucky Blue Bird Liquor Store in Hawthorne.
Wednesday night's potential jackpot is the second largest in Powerball history.
Even though the odds of winning are one in 292 million, that hasn't stopped people from trying their luck.
The giant jackpot has some on social media fantasizing about what they would do or buy if they won the jackpot.
One ticket with five numbers, but missing the Powerball number, was sold in last Saturday's drawing in Los Angeles at Vercher's Central Liquor Store in the 12000 block of South Central Avenue. That ticket is worth almost $1.1 million.
KCAL 9's Tina Patel reported from the 7-Eleven in Chino Hills that sold one of three winning tickets worth more than $1.5 billion last January.
She spoke to some people who didn't play in that jackpot and they're still kicking themselves.
"I work so close," said Joel Barcenas, "it's shocking that I didn't come that time."
Raul Flores also had this 7-Eleven in mind.
"I used to live down the street so I remembered this is where the last Powerball hit.," Flores said.
With one winning ticket being sold, the jackpot for Saturday's draw is a mere $40 million. (Did we say mere?)
