Pounding Surf Expected Along Much Of California Coast
LOS ANGELES (AP) — Swimmers and surfers are warned of powerful surf that will pound much of the California coast, bringing risks of flooding in low-lying areas.
The National Weather Service said Wednesday that waves between 10 and 14 feet are expected along the Central Coast, with sets up to 9 feet predicted to the south.
A high-surf advisory is in effect for Los Angeles County into Friday.
Forecasters warn of dangerous rip currents, sneaker waves, beach erosion and minor coastal flooding, especially during high tides.
The surf results from a powerful Pacific storm that's creating a long period west-northwest swell.
