Police investigate deadly shooting after a pursuit in Rosemead

Authorities are investigating a deadly shooting that happened at the end of a pursuit in Rosemead on Wednesday.

The chase started just before 9 p.m. after officers attempted to make a traffic stop on a 2015 Jeep for reckless driving, according to the Rosemead Police Department.

The pursuit started in San Gabriel and ended in the 2600 block of Charlotte in Rosemead.

An officer-involved shooting occurred after the chase ended and the driver was hit by gunfire. There were no other occupants inside the vehicle.

Los Angeles County Fire responded to the scene to treat the driver, who was pronounced dead at the scene.

On Friday, he was identified as 50-year-old Pedro Meza Diaz.

SkyCAL flew over the scene where three patrol cars could be seen behind a vehicle in the middle of the street with two doors wide open.

Dozens of evidence markers were placed on the street and in the front yard of a home in the area.

The incident remains under investigation by the California Department of Justice.
