Man arrested after shootout with police in South LA

Los Angeles Police Department officers arrested an assault with a deadly weapon suspect in South Los Angeles early Friday morning.

The incident began in the area of Imperial Highway and Success Avenue at around 10:25 p.m., where the suspect was seen riding a bicycle. After a brief pursuit, the suspect ditched the bike and ran from pursuing officers, one of whom opened fire, striking the suspect as he fled. 

According to police the suspect drew a weapon of some sort after dismounting the bike, prompting the shooting.

The suspect fled into a recycling center in the area, prompting a widescale search from law enforcement that turned into a three-hour long standoff.

After a SWAT team was called to the scene, authorities arrested the suspect at around 3:15 a.m. He was taken to a hospital for treatment due to the wounds he suffered from the shooting. 

According to police, the suspect was wanted for assault with a deadly weapon last week in a separate incident.
