Police Pursuit Near El Monte Ends Peacefully

EL MONTE (CBSLA.com) — Police pursued a vehicle at speeds that never exceeded 30 mph in the area of El Monte shortly before 7:30 p.m. Monday.

The pursuit suspect was said to be driving a stolen vehicle.

The driver, who police say was the only occupant of the vehicle, had been talking on a cellphone throughout the pursuit.

The pursuit originated in the El Monte area and had moved through the Whittier Narrows area into Montebello.

The vehicle struck a spike strip shortly before 7:45 p.m. before continuing.

The right-front tire was reportedly blown out, and by 8:05 p.m., the vehicle had four flat tires.

The pursuit, which lasted about 40 minutes, came to an end at 8:09 p.m., and the male suspect was taken into custody.

Speeds in the pursuit never exceeded 20 miles per hour.
