CHP Chase Reckless Driving Suspect Across Several Counties

COLTON (CBSLA.com) — California Highway Patrol nabbed a driver who bailed on foot following a high-speed chase that began in San Bernardino County and wound into a rural, mountainous region of San Diego County.

Officers first spotted the silver Chevy SUV on the 10 Freeway on Colton.

Stu Mundel was overhead in SKY9 around 8:25 p.m. Monday as driver headed into Corona on the southbound 15 Freeway, without much traffic as an impediment.

Ten minutes later, the driver kept on speeding into Lake Elsinore and exited the freeway.

The suspect drove down Spring Street and turned onto Lakeshore Drive, moving between 50 and 60 mph.

Shortly before 9 p.m., the suspect headed eastbound on Mission Road, crossed a Walgreens parking lot and continued on another commercial street in Lake Elsinore.

By 9 p.m. the driver was on Clinton Keith Road in Wildomar, racing at up to 70 mph in a barely-lit 15-mph zone.

Five minutes later, the SUV headed down small, mountainous roads in La Cresta, in Riverside County, and entered De Luz, in San Diego County, by 9:14 p.m.

A driver bailed on foot and was taken into custody.
