Suspect taken into custody after officer-involved shooting in Long Beach

Authorities Sunday were responding to Long Beach where an officer-involved shooting has occurred.

The incident unfolded around 11:34 a.m. at Clark Avenue and East 25th Street. Police responded to a report of a person pointing a gun at another person, officers said.

According to the Long Beach Police Department, officers observed the suspect's relatives leaving the home and began establishing a perimeter. The suspect then was spotted in the home holding a rifle.

Officers said they issued commands for the suspect, identified as 55-year-old Michael Eugene Amacher of Long Beach, to drop the rifle, but he refused and pointed it in the direction of the officers.

An officer-involved shooting occurred and Amacher was not struck by gunfire, police said. The suspect retreated into the home.

Negotiators were trying to come to a peaceful surrender with Amacher for hours. Around 4:25 p.m., a SWAT team entered the home.

Around 4:40 p.m., police tweeted that he had been safely taken into custody. He was charged with multiple accounts of assault with a firearm and will be booked upon receiving medical clearance.

Officers seized one firearm and one replica firearm at the scene, officers added.

No officers were hurt in the incident.
