Police: Mom Was Drunk, Drove Over Son's Leg During Argument
GLENDALE (CBSLA.com/AP) — Glendale police arrested a woman on suspicion of running over her 7-year-old son with her car in a supermarket parking lot while under the influence of alcohol.
Sharla Joseph, 46, was arguing with her two sons Saturday outside of a Ralphs store when she got into the car alone after threatening to leave them behind, Sgt. Robert William said.
The boys clung to the door handles as Joseph drove off, according to William. The car then rolled over the boy's thigh, leaving him bruised but mostly uninjured.
The 7-year-old fell to the ground and the car rolled over his leg.
William says responding officers smelled alcohol on Joseph's breath and she failed a field sobriety test.
Joseph, who is being held on $200,000 bail, could face charges including child abuse and drunken driving.
Her first court appearance is scheduled for Sept. 28.
