Police: Man Intentionally Run Over By Suspect In Del Taco Parking Lot
ANAHEIM (CBSLA.com) — A 26-year-old man was killed on Thursday after a driver intentionally ran him over in a Del Taco parking lot, police said.
According to the Anaheim Police Department, the victim and some of his friends were involved in an altercation with the suspect and some of his passengers in the parking lot located in the 1100 block of North Magnolia Avenue.
Officers located the victim at the scene around 3:20 a.m. lying in the parking lot.
Paramedics rushed him to UC-Irvine Medical Center in Orange, where he was later pronounced dead.
The death is being investigated as a homicide. Officials are talking to the driver licensed to the vehicle and his passengers.
As of Sunday evening, no arrests have been announced.
The Coroner identified the victim as Davoriol Wright who was a bouncer at a nearby strip club.
Thursday evening, Felicia Robinson, Wright's mother, spoke exclusively to KCAL9's Stacey Butler.
She remembered her son as a "gentle giant" who was struggling to get back on his feet after a tour of duty in Afghanistan.
His family and friends gathered near where Wright was struck by an SUV and dragged about 50 feet to his death.
Robinson says she forgives the person who killed her son. She just wants answers.
"I'm not angry at you," she said, "I'm not sure why I'm not angry. But I'm not angry. I just want you to do the right thing."
His mother is having trouble coming to grips with the fact her son survived a war only to come home and die in a senseless fight in a parking lot.
"He came home (from Afghanistan) and then he gets run over like an animal," Robinson said.
Robinson said her son was quick to laugh, quick to help his grandmother and his little brother, a Naval officer.
She said she hopes her son didn't die in vain.
"We're all going to see him again," she said, "if we do the right thing. Maybe God did this for other young people to realize that we only have today. We don't know what tomorrow's going to bring. Let;s just do the right thing."
Anyone with information regarding this crime is urged to contact police at (855) 847-6227.
