Police Look For Hit-And-Run Driver That Left Pedestrian Dead In Jefferson Park
LOS ANGELES (CBSLA.com) — Police are on the hunt for a hit-and-run driver that killed a pedestrian in the Jefferson Park area of Los Angeles.
Los Angeles Police Department South Traffic Division detectives are asking for the public's help in providing any information that would lead to the identification and arrest of the suspect.
Iris Davis, 50, was killed Saturday morning around 1:40 a.m.
Davis was crossing the street in a south east direction across Adams Boulevard outside the crosswalk. A motorist in a vehicle (unknown make, model, possible pickup truck light in color) traveling east on Adams collided with Davis.
The victim was a wife and mother of four grown children.
She was married to her high school sweetheart.
At a vigil Saturday evening, family and friends told KCAL9's Jennifer Kastner that Davis' husband was too grief-stricken to attend.
"My auntie Iris, she was an amazing woman. She cooked, she made us laugh, she was always there. She was probably the most honest person I ever met in my entire life," said her nephew Robert Peevy.
Family said Davis and a cousin had just left a local bar and they were walking home.
"They didn't want to drink and drive, so they walked home. She lives in the neighborhood," said Peevy.
He implored the driver to come forward.
"Accidents happen," he said, "But you need to own up to what you did."
The motorist failed to stop or render aid as mandated by law. Authorities said the motorist and the vehicle are still outstanding.
The investigation is ongoing.
Anyone who may have witnessed or have any info about the accident is asked to call The Los Angeles Police Department South. Anyone wishing to remain anonymous can call the LA Regional Crime Stoppers at 1-800-222-TIPS (800-222-8477) or go directly to www.lacrimestoppers.org.
