Man wanted in deadly Metro train stabbing turns himself in to LAPD
The man wanted in connection to a deadly stabbing on a Metro train in South Los Angeles was arrested, according to the Los Angeles Police Department.
The stabbing happened during a fight between the suspect and a passenger on the Metro E Line train in the University Park area Tuesday around 3:45 p.m.
The victim, 27-year-old Jalil Sosa Illera, left the scene with multiple stab wounds and was able to get to his home where he called for help. Los Angeles Fire Department paramedics took Illera to a local hospital where he later died from his injuries, police said.
"I can't describe it. I'm still in shock. My family is still in shock. We're hurt," his father Fabian Illera said. "It's a nightmare."
Sosa-Illera helped his father design and market clothing.
"Jalil was a beautiful individual," Illera said. "Jail was an artist. He was a creator."
On Wednesday, LAPD released security images of the wanted man and asked for the public's assistance in locating him.
The 19-year-old was taken into custody on Thursday at 12 a.m. after turning himself in to the police.
"It brings closure. We found the person who killed my son, but I don't have my son," Illera said. "I love him. I wish he was here right now."
The motive for the attack is unknown and the investigation is ongoing.
Anyone with information on the killing was urged to call LAPD Central Bureau Homicide Detectives John Meneses or Justin Howarth at 213-996-4144.
