Man arrested after confessing to Mid-Wilshire fatal shooting, possibly linked to a second shooting

Police investigate two separate Los Angeles shooting deaths after suspect admits to one of them

Police arrested a double murder suspect Wednesday, as the investigation into two Los Angeles shooting deaths, two miles apart continues.

The arrest of 50-year-old Marvin Magana was made after he walked into the Los Angeles Police Department 77th Area Station Tuesday night saying that there was a dead woman in a car in Koreatown. At the same time, he confessed to another shooting death earlier in the day, according to police.

Officers responded to the suspect's information around 10:24 p.m. and when they arrived in the area of Berendo and 8th streets, they found a 38-year-old woman with multiple gunshot wounds in the passenger seat of a car, according to police. She was pronounced dead at the scene and her identity has not been released.

While still at the station, Magana admitted to a Mid-Wilshire shooting death earlier in the day, according to police.

A man in his 40s riding an e-bike in the 900 block of S. Victoria Avenue around 4:15 p.m. on Tuesday, was shot multiple times and was pronounced dead at the scene by first responders. Police said the suspect intentionally hit the man with his car before shooting him several times. On Friday, authorities identified the victim as 43-year-old Jorge Guerrero Hurtado.

The suspect of the shooting was described as a man in his 50s with a beard, wearing an orange jacket who fled in a dark blue or dark purple sedan. The man at the 77th Police Station admitted to this shooting. Magana, of Los Angeles, was arrested and booked for murder.

It is still not known if the victim in the Koreatown shooting, about two miles away from the Mid-Wilshire scene, was shot there or if it happened somewhere else.

It is also unknown if the suspect has any connection to the woman. Police are asking the public for any information on the incidents.
