Perfect PIT maneuver brings high-speed pursuit to sudden end in Orange County

Buena Park police use perfectly executed PIT maneuver to end high-speed pursuit

A brief but high speed pursuit involving the driver of a pickup truck came to a sudden end in the Buena Park area when police conducted an immaculate PIT maneuver on Friday.

Buena Park Police Department officers began the pursuit after they allegedly witnessed the driver speeding.

While evading officers, the driver could be seen traveling at speeds up to 80 miles per hour on surface streets while running through stop signs, swerving around other cars and driving on the wrong side of the road.

As the suspect flew around a right hand turn, a Buena Park patrol car conducted a perfectly executed PIT maneuver, causing the truck to spin 180 degrees where it finally came to a stop at S. Magnolia Avenue and W. Westhaven Drive.

Other patrol cars immediately boxed the truck in, bringing the chase to a sudden end. The driver could be seen sitting in the car with his hands up as he was surrounded by officers, several of whom had K9 units.

Despite being held at gunpoint, the suspect remained seated in the truck, which was loaded with what appeared to be gardening tools.

The suspect was approached by officers several times, even remaining in the truck after being pelted with less than lethal pepper ball ammunition and pepper spray. At about 4:55 p.m., officers were finally able to remove the suspect from inside of the truck when he was finally taken into custody.

After he was placed in handcuffs, he was assessed by paramedics at the scene.

Officers from Anaheim Police Department also assisted with the chase.
