Police: Huntington Beach Woman Arrested In Fatal Hit-And-Run Crash
HUNTINGTON BEACH (CBSLA.com) — A 27-year-old woman was in custody Monday for allegedly killing an elderly pedestrian during a hit-and-run accident near Sunset Beach.
According to the Huntington Beach Police Department, officers were sent around 9:45 p.m. Sunday to the area of the Pacific Coast Highway and 11th Street, for report of a hit-and-run traffic collision involving a pedestrian.
Once on scene, officers located an injured 72-year-old man lying in the roadway in the 16800 block of the PCH.
Paramedics transported the victim to UCI Medical Center, where he was admitted in critical condition, and later succumbed to his injuries.
His identity is being withheld pending family notification.
A preliminary investigation revealed that a white 2006 Nissan Xterra traveled southbound on PCH and collided with the victim, who was preparing to enter his silver 2015 Ford Fiesta.
Detectives explained the driver of the Xterra did not stop following the collision, and fled from the scene.
Witnesses were able to provide officers with a description of the suspect and vehicle, which had stopped about one mile from the crash.
According to police, the vehicle had damage consistent to striking a pedestrian.
They interviewed the driver, Laura Ferreira, of Huntington Beach, at the scene, and subsequently arrested her for felony hit-and-run resulting in death, and on suspicion of DUI.
