The Interstate 5 Freeway was closed through the Grapevine overnight due to a shooting investigation after a truck driver was shot on the roadway by two suspects who fled on foot. The suspects remained at large Tuesday morning.

The northbound Interstate 5 Freeway was closed through the Grapevine due to police activity, Caltrans announced at 8:56 p.m. Monday. Northbound lanes remained closed Tuesday until about 6:20 a.m.

A shooting reportedly occurred on the freeway at about 7:30 p.m.

California Highway Patrol officers responded to multiple calls about people walking on the roadway brandishing a handgun.

The two people reportedly stopped a semi-truck, and the driver was shot during an ensuing altercation. The driver was hospitalized with non-life threatening injuries.

The suspects were described as a man and a woman, both dressed all in black. They reportedly fled the scene on foot.

Investigators were collecting evidence for several hours.

The tractor-trailer truck was still positioned in two of the left lanes of the roadway early Tuesday morning.

The Grapevine is a 40-mile stretch of the I-5 Freeway from Castaic in Los Angeles County to Lebec in Kern County.
