Driver taken into custody following stolen vehicle pursuit near Hawthorne

Police chasing a stolen vehicle reckless driver

A driver of a suspected stolen Mercedes SUV was taken into custody Wednesday afternoon in the Hawthorne area following a dangerous pursuit.

The Los Angeles Police began the pursuit in the Sawtelle area near Pico Boulevard and Barrington Avenue.

The driver in the blue Mercedes moved along both the 405 and 105 Freeway during the pursuit, and through Inglewood neighborhoods, driving recklessly and even going the wrong way several times.

At one point, the driver went the wrong way up the 405 Freeway offramp, then got off the freeway by taking an onramp, making it back onto surface streets.

Two times, the driver went into Inglewood neighborhoods, winding around police vehicles. The driver then got back on the freeway, driving the wrong way in an emergency lane along the 105 Freeway in the Hawthorne area.

The driver then parked in the emergency lane of the 105 Freeway, jumped out of the vehicle and onto the roadway's embankment. Police found the suspect hiding behind an overpass wall and took them into custody.
