A suspected DUI driver who led California Highway Patrol officers through four counties for over an hour, ended the pursuit in a Mid City strip mall parking lot, as he parked his car and surrendered to officers.

The pursuit began in the city of San Bernardino, then moved into Riverside, and Orange County CHP officers took over the pursuit around 3 p.m. as the driver continued on the Westbound 91 Freeway. The chase traveled into Los Angeles County just before 3:30 p.m.

The suspect, driving a silver Mercedes with dark-tinted windows, moved along at fluctuating speeds, at times reaching 120 mph.

A PIT maneuver was attempted at one point, but the driver was able to recover and quickly sped off, reaching speeds of 100 mph.

According to the CHP, the spouse of the driver called for a police response, which initiated the pursuit.

Two different times, the driver could be seen throwing something out of his window onto the roadway.

Around 3:37 p.m., CHP reported that the driver was on the phone with his daughter, as she urged him to pull over in the Commerce area.

In the Boyle Heights area, the driver opened his door while driving on the I-5 Freeway.
