Police Chase Theft Suspects From Glendora To Downtown Los Angeles

MONTEREY PARK (CBSLA.com) — Police chased theft suspects in Glendora on the westbound 10 Freeway to downtown Los Angeles Friday.

The chase lasted for little more than a half hour.

Stu Mundel, flying over the chase in Sky 9, said the driver was "very reckless."

The suspects are believed to have stolen from a grocery store in Glendora.

The driver  is "dodging, weaving, bobbing" and driving without his lights on "and driving very fast," Mundel reported.

When it ended, in a violent crash, four people jumped out of the vehicle.

CHP picked up the chase in downtown Los Angeles where the suspects got off the freeway.

Authorities said the suspects were allegedly throwing bottles out the window, possibly champagne, during the chase.

Just after 10 p.m., the speeding car lost control on a turn but slammed into a sidewalk and into a storefront.

The crash occurred at 43rd and Broadway. After the car crashed, four people exited the vehicle and fled on foot.

At least one of the four suspects was taken into custody within minutes, officials said.

Within 15 minutes officials said two more of the suspects were in custody. One remained at large as or 10:20 p.m., police said.

Mundel said "given the reckless nature of the driver," the suspects with no regard for human life had to be considered dangerous.

In the CBS2 News at 11 p.m., Peter Daut, reporting from the scene said officials told him the driver was female.

It was still unclear what the suspects were wanted for. At 11 p.m., officials announced all of the four suspects were in custody.

Daut also reported that there were unconfirmed reports that there was a 10-year-old boy in the backseat. The driver might be the boy's mother.
