Pink's Hot Dogs Kicks Off 75th Anniversary With Lines Around The Block
HOLLYWOOD (CBSLA.com) — The usually jammed area around Melrose Avenue and La Brea is even more jammed on a Friday night than usual.
The landmark hot dog eatery Pink's kicked off a 75th anniversary this evening and to mark the occasion also sold 75-cent hot dogs for 75 minutes.
So, the unusually long lines were even longer than usual, reported KCAL9's Brittney Hopper.
The line was down the block and "around the corner," Hopper reported.
Pink's started in 1935 at the same location. It's grown every year; it's an institution and loved by Average Joes and major celebrities alike.
Back in 1935, the hot dogs were 10 cents and a Coke was 5 cents.
Oh, how times (and prices) have changed!
For the owners, 75 years in business and thriving is a proud moment.
"All of the movie stars and TV stars who are on our celebrity wall of fame, we are so proud to have them, but we're also proud that all of Los Angeles comes here. People come here in pickups and they come in limos. They come to Pink's for the hot dogs," said Richard Pink.
Said one Pink's fan: "It's a legendary place. It's a part of Los Angeles."
