Pine Fire In Gorman Fully Contained
GORMAN (CBSLA.com) — The fire that blackened nearly 110 acres in the Gorman area was fully contained Sunday.
The Pine Fire, which consumed 109 acres of dry vegetation on the south side of state Route 138, was first reported at 1:20 p.m. Friday.
It was declared 100 percent contained at 10 a.m. today, said Cheryl Sims, supervising dispatcher with the Los Angeles County Fire Department.
The blaze prompted the closure of Old Ridge Route, south of Route 138, and at one point threatened at least two homes, according to the sheriff's department.
The fire also forced the closure of Lake Hughes Road at Pine Canyon Road and Three Points Road at Pine Canyon Road, according to the California Highway Patrol.
Around 190 firefighters backed by two Super Scooper planes, one other fixed-wing aircraft and four helicopters were deployed at the fire's peak Friday afternoon, authorities said.
About half as many firefighters and 20 engines remained deployed Saturday and only a small contingent stayed at the scene overnight, said a county fire dispatcher.
The cause of the blaze, dubbed the Pine Fire because it started near Pine Canyon Road, remains under investigation.
