Pilot, Passenger Found Dead In Wreckage Of Small Plane Crash North Of Ojai

SANTA BARBARA (AP) — A pilot and passenger have been found dead in the wreckage of a small airplane that crashed in a remote area of Southern California.

The Santa Barbara County Sheriff's Office says authorities received a report of a mayday call involving engine trouble Thursday night.

The plane was spotted early Friday on a mountainside 30 to 40 miles north of Ojai.

Authorities say the victims appear to be men in their 50s or 60s.

Federal Aviation Administration spokesman Ian Gregor says the single-engine Cessna 182 was flying from Lompoc in Santa Barbara County to McClellan-Palomar Airport in San Diego County.

Gregor says the pilot reported loss of engine power about 18 miles northeast of Santa Barbara.
