Bicyclist struck and killed by car in Irwindale

A hit-and-run driver has been arrested and is facing a murder charge after killing a bicyclist in Irwindale Tuesday night.

Officers responded to the scene around 8:30 p.m. near Arrow Highway and Rivergrade Road where they found a pedestrian lying next to a bike in the road, according to the Los Angeles County Fire Department. The victim was pronounced dead at the scene. 

Police said after hitting the victim, the suspect drove away from the scene and abandoned the vehicle. Witnesses alerted Irwindale police to the suspect's location and officers arrested him.

During the investigation, the El Monte Police Department informed Irwindale PD that the suspect was involved in allegedly stealing a car from a Toyota dealership in El Monte. El Monte police were in pursuit of the suspect as he drove from El Monte into Irwindale but had called off the pursuit before the suspect fatally struck the bicyclist.

The suspect was booked into the West Covina Jail on a murder charge.
