Residents Say Man Shot To Death Over Longstanding Neighbor Feud

SIMI VALLEY (CBSLA.com) — Officers in Simi Valley have arrested a man in a deadly shooting that allegedly was caused by a longstanding dispute between neighbors.

The man was killed around 7 p.m. in the back of a condominium complex in the 2900 block of Deacon Avenue, according to the Simi Valley Police Department.

"We heard some shots. We came out and we heard some screams," according to Craig Owens, who lives on the block and works with the victim.

He identified the victim as Jon, and said he's a married father of two.

Owens says the suspect lives in the condo above the victim, and that he's also a father to young children.

Officials didn't release much in the way of details but neighbors told CBS2/KCAL9 News that the victim and the man who was detained are neighbors and have been getting into quarrels for years.

Residents in this condo complex also say police were called to the condo unit Wednesday, when "the victim verbally attacked the wife of the suspect, calling her lots of very, very bad names, and calling her children names," according to neighbor Shanna Foster, who says she's friends with the suspect's family. "There have been physical altercations. [The victim] has attacked the suspect with a baseball bat, as well."

Owens said, "One's going to prison, maybe for the rest of his life, and the other's going to the graveyard."

Homicide investigators spent several hours probing the scene.
