Pedestrian, 85, Fatally Struck By Gold Coast Transit Bus In Oxnard
OXNARD (CBSLA.com) — A pedestrian was killed Saturday afternoon after being struck by a Gold Coast Transit bus in Oxnard.
Authorities said the accident happened just before 12:30 p.m. at Saviers Road and Yucca Street.
The north and southbound lanes of Saviers Road. were closed from Bard Road. north to Bryce Canyon hours during an investigation into the cause of the accident.
Saviers reopened after several hours, authorities said.
Saturday evening, authorities identified the victim as 85-year-old Raul German Vargas.
A preliminary investigation says the bus driver approached a bus stop southbound on Saviers Road north of Yucca Street,
Vargas, who was on the sidewalk, somehow stumbled into the roadway.
Paramedics worked on Vargas but he was declared dead at the scene.
