Pedestrian dies after getting hit by car while trying to run across 74 Freeway in Riverside County

A man was killed when he tried to run across Highway 74 in Homeland last week. 

It happened at around 9:15 p.m. on Friday near the intersection of SR-74 and White Avenue, according to California Highway Patrol officers. 

They say that the man, since identified as 49-year-old Homeland resident Lefty Linscott, was walking along the north shoulder of the freeway when he began "running in a southerly direction" to cross the four-lane highway. 

"The pedestrian ran directly into the path of a 2016 Hyundai Elantra traveling in the No. 1 lane of the eastbound 74," said CHP Officer Mike Lassig. 

Officers say that the driver of the Hyundai, a 32-year-old woman from Hemet, was unable to swerve around Linscott in time. 

"The front end of the Elantra collided into the man," Lassig said. 

Paramedics arrived at the scene and pronounced the man dead. 

Investigators questioned the driver but she was not arrested.
