Parolee Arrested In Carjacking, Sexual Assault
SAN BERNARDINO (CBSLA.com) — A parolee is in custody on suspicion of carjacking a 19-year-old woman near San Bernardino and sexually assaulting her.
Joshua Steven Medlock, 34, was arrested Thursday for allegedly attacking a woman at about 3:40 a.m. on Sept. 25, according to San Bernardino County sheriff's officials.
Authorities say the girl had argued with her boyfriend and drove off, parking in the lot of a Grand Terrace church on a cliff overlooking city lights. As she sat in her car with the doors locked, the driver's side window shattered and the woman saw a tall, thin white man wearing dark clothes and holding a black metal flashlight/Taser, according to sheriff's officials.
Investigators say the man held the woman down and began to sexually assault her. After several minutes, the woman was able to escape and ran to the nearest gas station, where she asked the clerk to call 911, authorities said.
The woman was able to give a clear description of the suspect, which authorities said led to the identification of Medlock as the suspect.
Medlock was found at a home in the city of Mentone, where he tried to flee through an upstairs window but was captured without further incident, officials said.
Medlock was found with 52-year-old Jeffrey Lyle Ohlney, who was found to be a registered sex offender out of compliance and was also taken into custody.
Medlock is on parole for burglary and had been avoiding his parole officer since his release, according to authorities.
