Pair of suspects outstanding following smash-and-grab robbery at Brea Mall

Pair of suspects rob a Kay Jewelers in Brea Mall

The search is on for a pair of suspects wanted in connection with a smash-and-grab robbery that targeted a Kay Jewelers inside of the Brea Mall Friday evening.

The robbery is said to have occurred just before 6:50 p.m. when the suspects reportedly used hammers to smash the glass displays inside of the store before stealing an undisclosed amount of merchandise. Witnesses said that the suspects were wearing masks.

In an official statement released to the public, Brea Police made it clear that no gunshots were fired, as "some witnesses heard what they thought were firearms; however, the sound was from the hammers striking the glass."

"I heard a couple of loud bangs and I looked around," said witness Fred Simon.

The suspects then ran outside where a getaway driver was waiting for them.

Police described the suspects as two Black men with black hoodies, red sweatpants and face masks. They were in their late teens or early 20s.

"It's really sad," said Simon. "The poor people in the jewelry store were scared. Thank goodness no one was hurt or anything. The even [sadder] about this is there are no armed guards so these guys getaway; they'll never find them."
